Transvision Vamp Rolled Back The Years At Epic Studios, Norwich.

On a wet and stormy Saturday night, late-80s UK punk-pop / new-wave cult icons Transvision Vamp brought both nostalgia and a renewed energy to Epic Studios, Norwich. The band’s headline show on the 24th October 2026 marks their first appearance in Norwich since reuniting in 2025 after a 34-year hiatus; the band brought a catchy, engaging and age-defying performance that fans are sure to remember after so many years of waiting to hear these songs live.

First on stage were Yee Loi, who brought classic punk chaos, filled with heavy rockabilly-style riffs and catchy beats that really gave the crowd a wake-up slap after being out queuing in the rain! If you’re new to Yee Loi like myself, they’re an up-and-coming punk rock group hailing from Liverpool, who are somewhat unique in being a totally family affair (the members are all siblings!). Interestingly, drummer Matilda is also lead vocalist, who demonstrated her versatility throughout a high octane set that even featured a cover of the Elvis Presley classic ‘Mystery Train’. Yee Loi made clear that they aren’t interested in backing tracks, AI or anything over-polished – they’re three musicians out to make authentic songs that pack a punch, and I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for them in the future.

Second and last to hit the stage were the band that so many in the audience had been waiting years for, Transvision Vamp. The band were warmly welcomed on stage with cheers and applause, which hit the next level when unmistakable singer Wendy James walked on shortly afterwards to perform opening track ‘Trash City’. This was the band’s first appearance in Norwich in over 35 years, which was acknowledged by Wendy James as she remembered performing at the nearby UEA in the band’s heyday. Before the set began, many in the crowd were excitedly speaking about how long they had been waiting to hear Transvision Vamp live; this show was a sell-out, so I was expecting a great atmosphere. The next track ‘Tell That Girl To Shut Up’, originally by Holly and the Italians, kept the momentum going and highlighted that none of the attitude had been lost over the years.

Transvision Vamp brought a huge stage presence as they encouraged the crowd to dance along; there looks to be a brilliant chemistry among the band themselves too, as they genuinely seemed to enjoy being on stage. This is quite an achievement as only vocalist Wendy James and bassist Dave Parsons remain from the original line-up; they are now joined by guitarists Alex Ward and Pip Stakem, drummer Jim Sclavunos, and keyboardist Matt Millership, who have flawlessly resurrected the original material. There was a massive cheer when Wendy James announced that they were about to play hit single ‘I Want Your Love’ with near enough every person in the room singing along throughout.

The band powered through their set list which was full of catchy and energetic sing-along songs such as ‘The Only One’, ‘If Looks Could Kill’ and ‘Revolution Baby’ which generated serious feel-good energy in the tightly packed room. There was even time for a few Wendy James solo tracks, including a hard-hitting rendition of ‘Speedball’. This was my first time watching Transvision Vamp and I must say that I really enjoyed the experience; if they’re ever back in Norwich, I would love to see them again (although I hope it doesn’t take another 35 years!).
