Scranton, PA gothic metalcore icons Motionless In White have released their seventh studio album, titled Decades. The album was released on 17 July 2026 through Roadrunner Records, and was produced by Drew Fulk and Justin DeBlieck.
Back in August 2024, Motionless In White teased fans that they had begun writing new material for a new album, which would represent a follow up to 2022’s Scoring The End Of The World. While fans were naturally excited by this news, the band stated that they were “taking their time with it” to “write the coolest record”. Motionless In White were originally aiming to release Decades in 2025 but then later decided to release in 2026 instead, celebrating their 20th anniversary as a band in style; I wasn’t best pleased with having to wait longer for the album, but I do agree that this was a pretty cute idea!
Towards the end of January 2026, the band released their first new single in four years, titled ’Afraid Of The Dark’. This new track was very well received by fans, with powerful vocals and an important message about just how hard they’ve had to work to get to where they are now, driving it to the top of the US Billboard Hot Hard Rock Songs chart. On 6 May 2026, Motionless In White released the single ‘Playing God’; again, this was a big hit within the metal community as it featured Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor. The third single to release was ‘R.I.P’ featuring Skylar Grey and the music video for this track was a beautifully haunting Gothic romance, with band members being projected onto big stained glass windows, while Chris’s and Skylar’s “ghosts” ran through a Gothic mansion/cathedral/castle hybrid. Finally, to celebrate the album release, the band have released a fourth new single called ‘Fight Like Hell’.
I cannot express how excited I am to go through and highlight my favourite tracks of this album, as Decades has been a long awaited album for me. As a whole, it’s a brilliant listen for anyone that’s already a fan; it’s packed with catchy choruses and the usual Motionless In White growls and bleghs that we know and love, but there’s plenty of new twists to keep things fresh and potentially win over some new listeners through a bit of musical evolution.
My first highlight is album title track ‘Decades’, which is blended together with the second album track ‘Log_in//crash_out’ so it’s kind of a two in one. The reason I’ve highlighted these tracks is because they’re such a throwback to previous album Scoring The End Of The World, especially that album’s title track ‘Scoring The End Of the World’. I also adore how there’s mixed genres going on, with catchy cheerleading style chants in the background and badass lyrics like “Ashes to embers, I fuelled the flames, You will remember my name, You’re either in or you’re in my way”. Just like on Scoring The End Of The World, these tracks are also super catchy; as I was listening to them I couldn’t help but headbang and move along. These tracks really do get me pumped up to listen to the rest of the album!
My second highlight track is the newest single release ‘Fight Like Hell’. This track is sure to get any listener’s head moving and put a surly look of pure attitude on their face when hearing it; I can also imagine it being a great workout track, or the build up to any occasion when unbridled energy is needed. I particularly enjoy how Chris’s vocals remind me just a little bit of Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit when he sings the words “I’m a landmine, step into my spotlight, hit you like a punchline, I’m putting bodies in the seats like, Room full cap, watch you gettin’ bitch slapped, callin’ for the rematch, And I suffer for my own entertainment, I love to feed your hatred, so tag in or tap out” I just love how catchy and sassy that second verse is; it really does hit with the full force and attitude of 90’s nu-metal.
Now it’s really tough to decide what my third highlight track should be, as Decades is simply packed full to the brim with great and catchy anthems that I just can’t get enough of. After a lot of thought, I have gone with ‘Sunglasses at Night’; a cover of a song originally by synth-pop singer Corey Hart. I love what Motionless In White has done with a song that’s so different to their usual work, even keeping the original instrumental for this track with catchy synth sound that perfectly sums up 1980’s pop; there’s just something about this song that I can’t quite pin point though, and I can’t believe just how well Chris’s voice actually suits this style of music.
I’m absolutely gobsmacked with Decades, because I genuinely thought Scoring The End Of The World was Motionless In White’s masterpiece up until now. This album has blown my mind with just how much variety and evolution the band have put onto record; I’m utterly obsessed with the album and have listened to it repeatedly since it’s release! One moment you’re listening to typical metalcore and the next you’ve got EDM and/or nu-metal and/or industrial, with a sprinkling of 80’s new wave through the cover of ‘Sunglasses at Night’. If I could sum the listening experience up with a metaphor, it’d be that if Scoring The End Of The World was a masterpiece painting, then Decades would be the whole gallery; I don’t want to ramble on too much, but somehow Motionless In White have got all these contrasting genres working together to create a mature and complex sound. I always appreciate when a metal band shows a willingness to push their boundaries; I can only hope for a UK tour announcement very soon, as I can’t wait to hear this new work in a typically theatrical Motionless In White live show!
