Joanne Shaw Taylor Releases New Album The Trouble With Love

British blues-rock guitarist and singer-songwriter Joanne Shaw Taylor releases her new studio album, The Trouble With Love, today (23rd October) via Joe Bonamassa’s Journeyman Records. Kevin Shirley, a longtime collaborator whose credits include The Black Crowes, Journey and Aerosmith, produces the 10-track record. It covers love in its different forms and blends blues, rock, soul and Americana. Joe Bonamassa and Orianthi guest on the album.

Alongside the album, Joanne Shaw Taylor releases a new single, ‘Never Gonna Please ‘Em All’, with an official music video. The song turns the album’s focus on relationships inward. It addresses the pressure to meet other people’s expectations and the demands placed on women, from being told to smile and speak less to feeling pressured to make themselves smaller or more agreeable. Lyrics include “I turned my heartbreak / Into a work of art” and the refrain “Ain’t never gonna please ’em all”.

You can stream the album or order it.

The songs

The title track, ‘The Trouble With Love’, features Joe Bonamassa and deals with the highs and lows of romance. ‘What Good Is My Love?’ features Orianthi and explores loving someone who cannot return that affection.

‘Hell Or High Water’ uses a blues-gospel arrangement to address perseverance and self-belief. Joanne Shaw Taylor also covers Celeste’s ‘This Is Who I Am’. ‘Tired Of Being Right’ looks at realising that someone you love may never change, while ‘Bad Boy’ deals with attraction to a relationship that is both thrilling and destructive. ‘The Girl That You Loved Before’ looks back on a past relationship. ‘You And Me (Rachel’s Song)’ is a tribute to her best friend and focuses on friendship rather than romance.
