Portuguese band Gaerea have released a new standalone track, ‘Shallow’, shortly before the start of their North American tour with Imminence and Dying Wish.
The band say of the track: “‘Shallow’ was written on the edge where depression and clarity briefly meet in an endless dance. It is a song about hoping for a brighter day while sinking deeper into the dark sheets of self-loathing. One of the most experimental tracks GAEREA have ever created, it gave rise to extensive vocal and orchestral experimentation and serves as a reflection of what GAEREA has become throughout ten years of relentless creativity, touring, and complete commitment to our true selves.”
Gaerea also invited several artists from different creative backgrounds to reinterpret the song. London-based cellist and composer Jo Quail features in the video for the acoustic version:
Electronic artist Paranormal Attack deconstructs the original composition and rebuilds it as a remix, while Juan L. Otaiza offers a piano interpretation.
The band say the collaborations were also meant to highlight Portugal’s creative community. They wanted to celebrate and support talent in and around their homeland, despite the country’s often-overlooked place on the music map.
Over the past 18 months, Gaerea have released their latest album, Loss, toured extensively with Orbit Culture, played a number of European festivals, completed a tour of Australia and performed in Japan for the first time. They are now preparing to take their live show and the songs from Coma to North America with Imminence and Dying Wish.
The band have also announced a show in Lisbon next summer:
- 04.07.27 (PT) Lisbon – MEO Arena (with Motionless In White, Beartooth, Wage War, Currents, Novelists)
