Gurriers – The Waterfront, Norwich – 20/10/2026

Tramhaus and Gurriers put on an amazing display of the versatility of post-punk at The Waterfront in Norwich. From heavily distorted baselines and catchy guitar riffs to angsty vocals, they both put on one hell of a show.

Tramhaus opened the stage and immediately set the tone for the evening. Despite having limited space to move on stage due to a wall of amps behind them, they brought the energy. The way they layered their shoegaze-like guitars was really intriguing as well as the contrast between Lukas‘ aggressive vocals and the softer monotone vocals from Nadya during songs like ‘Swarm’. Gurriers truly couldn’t have picked a more complimentary band to open for them if they tried.

Gurriers took to the stage to a loud cheer before the stage went completely dark and the crowd fell silent. They opened with the title track of their recently released album ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You’. The haze and strobe lights created the most intense atmosphere as they built up alongside the songs, perfectly timed to the music; they crafted a fully immersive show that engaged the crowd. A sea of bobbing heads could be seen throughout the venue before the moshing commenced. They played ‘Nobody’s Coming To Save You‘ in full as well as most of their debut album ‘Come and See‘. ‘Dipping Out’ even got its live debut!

Dan Hoff, lead singer, had an incredible vocal range, able to channel a range of emotions into various vocal styles. The way that their frustration at the current political climate was expressed throughout their songs was done in such a way that it felt collective and comforting to know that we’re not alone with those feelings.

Their approach to ‘tough’ topics as well as love songs with catchy songwriting is fascinating. The use of different vocal styles and how they are paired with instrumentation is like no other. Emotions heighten as the song builds through the use of ‘shouty’ repetitive lyrics in ‘Nothing Happens Twice’ whereas in ‘pins’, the guitar riffs are used to mimic the intonation and create infectious earworms. ‘Drones’ pairs droning vocals with heavily distorted guitars creating a gothic soundscape whereas ‘Today Is Not Enough’ uses extremely distorted bass lines to create a more industrial sound that resonated throughout the venue. ‘Top Of The Bill’ has a more shoegaze approach to the attention-grabbing guitar riffs while the lyrics are spoken over the top.

They made sure that their fans knew they were appreciated and called to free Palestine before leaving the stage.

I wasn’t familiar with the band or their music at all before seeing them live but after their Norwich performance, I now fully understand the hype surrounding this rapidly rising Irish band. You can still catch them on their European tour all the way through until December 9th! Tickets are available here.
