Australian deathcore band To The Grave made a stop in Manchester for their EU/ UK tour with support from UK deathcore bands Veiled and Osiah.
Veiled
Veiled took to the stage shrouded in darkness with washes of backlighting. Draped in cloaks paired with individual masks, the band’s overall aesthetic was as dark as the lighting. While only being able to make it into the venue for the final two songs, they were both impactful and I hope I get the chance to see them again soon to make up for it.
It was a pleasant surprise to see these guys on the lineup after only anticipating one supporting band and the turnout of the crowd up to this point reflected this as there wasn’t as many people in early doors as I originally expected there to be, which is unfortunate because their stage presence and sound was phenomenal.
Osiah
Next support to follow the high standards set by Veiled was Osiah and they well and truly brought the intensity. The barrage of vocals produced by frontman Ricky Lee Roper was impressive and anyone who wasn’t throwing fists in the pit stood watching in awe at the man in front of them.
The whole band meshed together so well, delivering technical yet still straight-up deathcore with no gimmicks, while still making it unique to themselves. If you’re looking for another technical metal band to get into, definitely check out Osiah because they know what they do and they do it well, without no extra fluff needed.
To The Grave
All the way from Sydney, Australia, we have our headliners, To The Grave. The band made their way to the stage and got straight into the chaos, followed fast by frontman Dane Evans making his entrance, dressed in his signature black coat, black apron, and a decaying pig mask – a fitting match for the pig squeals in the vocals to come.
Vegan activism is the key theme of the night as frontman Evans makes impactful statements throughout the show regarding their stance on animal rights. This is something you can come to expect from the band, if it wasn’t already evident in the titles of some of their songs, including ‘Burn Your Local Butcher‘, ‘Vegan Day of Violence‘ and ‘Forced Diet Reassignment’, all of which were played on the night.
The band also played their rendition of ‘Room 409‘ by Bullet For My Valentine which fit in extremely well with the rest of the setlist, this was shortly followed by chants from fans requesting the band play a new song for them, to which Evans announced they would instead play some older songs, before heading straight into ‘Miserable Summer‘ followed by ‘Terrorist Threat‘.
While the room wasn’t filled to the brim as it can sometimes get in Rebellion, the turnout was still immense and the room incredibly sweaty, with fans forming pits and going incredibly feral, as and when instructed to by Evans. The man can truly work a crowd, with all members giving it their all at all times. It’s fantastic to see their UK fanbase growing, and I’ll be excited to see the band headline bigger venues in the future.
