Averi Mazi is an LA-based alt-pop artist, heavily inspired by RnB and Rock which she blends to create a smorgasbord of sonic styles mirroring the dualities in her life. She encapsulates a striking balance of paradoxes into her sonic world. Averi makes music for anyone that feels like they don’t fit into societal norms, which she furthers through her strong stage presence that can make a whole room feel connected. This is her ultimate goal through creating music. She quickly cultivated a fervent following in the Dallas/Fort Worth area performing at venues like Trees in Deep Ellum, outside the Dickies Arena and many more before moving to Los Angeles in 2024 where she performed at many venues including The Troubadour and Viper Room in her first year there.

The release of ‘DIRTY’ (produced by James October) marks her 4th single and feels like a continuation of where ‘higher’ left off. She maintains the alt-pop sound but brings in even more of a funk element to it. The ethereal guitar riffs combined with Averi‘s softer whispery vocals, perfectly capture the feeling of queer joy before the beat drops bringing back in the funky bass line which carries this song and portrays the fun, ‘cheeky’ side of a relationship. This is accompanied by the sped up distorted vocals which encompass the sentiment of being wrapped up in someone else.
This song reclaims the ‘dirty’ connotation that many queer people often feel, as society pushes this narrative of shame, and turns it into a fun playful tune that celebrates queer love. The back and forth of the lyrics as well as the melody teases and entices the listener while showing how beautiful queer love can be which is further shown throughout the music video, featuring Averi‘s wife, Hope, via a DIY camcorder vibe.
‘You’ll be back for more, you’re always wanting more‘ is an extremely accurate lyric, the song is so catchy thanks to the repetitive chant like chorus, it will get stuck in your head and leave you wanting more! Averi is currently working on her debut EP and I cannot wait to hear what else she has in store for us!
