BEXY opened the stage with ‘The end of the world again’, showing off her soulful vocals, backed by her band. The crowd received her set well as she performed many unreleased songs while giving us the backstory that led to each one being created. The crowd cheered as she told us about being accepted for her global talent visa and the many mottos she carries through life with her, even exchanging a few jokes before falling silent again to take in the music. Her music has a nostalgic quality to it, stripped back but simultaneously high energy. I particularly enjoyed ‘Love me like you lost me’.
Emi Grace then took to the stage, instantly captivating the audience with her insane guitar skills. She opened her set with 2 unreleased songs before diving into her catalogue with ‘Known Better’ and ‘Mr. Melodramatic’. Her music has an interactive quality to it with many ad libs and catchy choruses which had the crowd singing along each time before silently taking in the guitar solos.
Emi’s band also each had their own moments to shine and interact with the crowd without taking away from Emi’s performance. One thing that was continuously shown throughout the show was her sense of artistry, from her strong stage presence to her cheeky lyricism and unique style of music she creates. She knows exactly who she is and what she wants, which she serves with a side of attitude.
Ensuring the whole crowd got a good view, she left the front row dancing as she ran to the middle of the floor to perform ‘Misbehave’ where she switched between angsty and softer vocals, backed by powerful guitar riffs before diving into yet another breathtaking guitar solo.
After running back to the main stage for another 2 unreleased songs, which included ‘patiently’, a slower song about how she left home to pursue her dream that was topped off with a harmonica solo, while the crowd lit up the venue with their swaying flashlights.
She wrapped up her set with ‘Talk About It’, one of her loudest singles yet. She was joined by her bassist Collier Doak on vocals for the ad libs before ending the evening with one of her funkiest solos.
