Winona Fighter announce second Album Brutal & Extremely Underrated

Winona Fighter are back with album number two. Brutal & Extremely Underrated lands on 22nd January 2027 via Rise Records, and it’s available to pre-order and pre-save here.

New single ‘LEECH’ is out today, with a video directed by Hannah Hall. It’s the second taste of the record after ‘BOMBS AWAY’, which tackles immigration raids.

The band made the follow-up to 2025’s My Apologies to The Chef the same way as before: DIY, with Austin Luther producing at his home studio and Coco Kinnon on drums throughout. Parts of it were recorded in Nashville during an ice storm, and Grammy Award-winning engineer Greg Collins, whose credits include System Of A Down, U2 and No Doubt, mixed it.

That hands-on approach is the point. “I especially love that we get to give our fans and new listeners something real in a world of slop,” says Kinnon. Luther is honest about the pressure of a second record: “We definitely felt that second record cloud hanging over everything, but we also felt we were making something that was really great. It’s not a sharp pivot, but it is an evolution.”

There are some unexpected moments on the tracklist. ‘Lily Cut Her Hair’ was co-written with PUP’s Stefan Babcock, and the album closes with ‘Title (REDACTED)’, which references the Epstein Files and began as a song about AI. Kinnon says she left in a line where she sounds almost out of breath: “We wanted to keep the rawness and the realness in it, and I hope people can feel that.”

Luther’s advice for listening is simple: “Please enjoy at full volume.”

Winona Fighter close 2026 at Vans Warped Tour in Orlando and open for Taking Back Sunday’s holiday show in December, before a two-leg US headline tour starting on 21st January 2027. Dates and tickets are on the band’s website.
