Calva Louise have released their new single, ‘La Promesa’, which is available now on Mascot Records. The band have also announced a series of tour dates across the UK, France, and Spain, with festival appearances in 2027.
‘La Promesa’, which translates to ‘The Promise’ from Spanish, is the first single from the band since their album Edge of the Abyss, released in July 2025. The song explores the concept of invisible forces that drive individuals forward. Jess Allanic states that while some of these forces can be positive, others can become “empty promises rooted in obsessions and delusions,” leading to a blurring of lines between right actions, challenging paths, or ignoring consequences.
The music video for ‘La Promesa’ was written, directed, and had its special effects handled by Jess Allanic. The video’s narrative takes the viewer to an 18th-century manor estate and expands on a character from Edge of the Abyss. The band describe the video as a “DIY endeavour” that aims to increase production value.
The song is sung in Spanish, with Jess Allanic explaining that it feels more natural to convey abstract emotions in her native language. She adds that the song’s inspiration from Venezuelan Joropo (Música Llanera) meant Spanish was the “only way” to sing the melody. The track also features French lines sung by bassist Alizon Taho, which acts as a nod to the band’s multicultural background and adds another perspective to the character’s point of view.
Calva Louise recorded the track at home, with the exception of the drums, which were recorded at The Ranch Recording Studio in the south of England. Jess Allanic produced the track, which was then mixed and mastered by Jeff Dunne. The band state that the new music expands the Calva Louise universe, exploring themes of duality and purpose that were introduced in Edge of the Abyss.
