Nova Twins brought the second leg of their Parasites & Butterflies tour to Norwich the other night. Starting the evening off was Precious Pepala who brought lots of energy and connected well with the crowd, telling little stories about each song before showing off her impressive vocal riffs. Her upbeat set had the crowd moving along to songs including ‘Love Bombs’ and ‘Dream Cheater’ as well as the more vulnerable ‘Bubble Wrap’.
Next up was Venus Grrrls who took to the stage and immediately had everyone under a spell with their latest single ‘3×3’. This was the perfect song to open their set with, setting the tone with feminine rage and showcasing their heavier instrumental sections. ‘Bloodsick’ and ‘Hex’ stood out to me in particular, allowing Grace Lou Kelly‘s vocals to really shine through before treating the crowd to 2 unreleased songs ‘Mother Knows’ and ‘Eve’ which both appeared to be hits with the crowd. Their set wrapped up with ‘Eighteen Crows’ which Grace sang stood on the barrier, as close to the fans as possible. It was wonderful having them back in Norwich, they always deliver a fun set.
After finishing the first leg of this tour with their biggest headline show to date at the O2 Kentish Town Forum back in October, I wasn’t sure how the smaller Norwich show would compare but Nova Twins returned to the stage with the same intensity as every other show they play.
Keeping the setlist the same but switching up the order, they began with ‘Antagonist’ which immediately had the crowd bouncing. Throughout the show, Georgia South showed off her distinctive bass lines which play a big part in their unique sound, each one sounding so different to another. Amy Love showcased her strong vocal range effortlessly switching between faster hip-hop style lyrics and longer vocal runs. The songs which stood out most to me were ‘N.O.V.A’ which had the crowd chanting along to the lyrics and ‘Hummingbird’ which had the whole room stood in silence as they were enchanted by Amy‘s ethereal vocals.
The energy of the room combined with the light show was incredible and showed just how much Amy and Georgia love every second they get on stage performing and interacting with their fans. They truly do know how to put on a show!
