What can I say? Paleface Swiss is a band that brings community and pure, raw energy. The venue, Troxy, was buzzing with excitement, and even before the show had begun, it was clear it was going to be an epic show. I didn’t realise how epic it would be or how much I would enjoy it. It’s safe to say this is a band that brings everything to the table.
Their first song, ‘I am a Cursed One’, started the night as they meant to follow, with fire, loud screamo, and crowd surfing. This band brings something special to the table and something that not many bands these days have: community. As insane and brilliant the show was, I think the community the band has created is the true magic. You can tell the band is part of this community, as during the show, everyone was safe with the crowd surfers.
Marc Zellweger opened a pit in the middle of the standing area, and again, everyone was respectful and safe. They opened up a pi,t and nobody was hurt. Nearly every song had pryro, and it was exhilarating.
Stick to Your Guns
Stick to Your Guns opened the show, and let’s just say they opened with a bang! Again, straight off the bat, the fans were headbanging and crowd surfing, bringing pure angst to the party. When it comes to the production, I really enjoyed the opener’s visuals, which added to their angst. Openers can be very still and basic, not these guys. They had strobes to add to their visuals and not just a basic two-colour flush colour scheme. This really added to their angsty performance.
Static Dress
Right, these guys outdid themselves. These northerners had an absolutely brilliant performance. They paid thanks to Paleface Swiss more than once, which also solidified the notes of community. They had amazing crowd work, as between songs they would take a moment to explain who they were and their background. As an opener, you do not normally expect a decent-sized visual production, but this band brought a mini set, and their lights had movers, different colours, and a whole design concept to it.
