The Clause Ooze Charisma At The Garage, London 2025

The Clause are having the best year of their lives, so said PM, the lead singer of the band, as he told the crowd at the London stop of their Victim of a Casual Thing tour.

The Birmingham quartet sold out The Garage, as well as another 7 dates of this leg of their debut album tour. Impressive, bearing in mind they’re completely independent and do it all themselves.

The energy in the room was palpable, and it was evident that the crowd was ready for a good time as they chanted several of the anthems on the pre show playlist, which included tracks by Oasis, The Kooks, Muse, Royel Otis and more.

MJB missed the first act Lady of Mars due to train trouble. Lady of Mars was selected to open for The Clause for their London gig only.

The Kairos, the second opener, are supporting The Clause at every stop. They played every song as if it were the last one they would ever play. Big sound, big energy, more rockier than The Clause. The crowd loved them and a large number of people knew every word.

The four piece band from Liverpool ended their 7 song set by throwing a packet of unopened Jaffa Cakes onto the crowd. At the end of the show, they headed to the merch stand where, with a lot of charm, they sold signed posters and t shirts.

Flashing blue lights, and the words Victim of A Casual Thing along with a helpline number, were projected onto the wall and The Clause took the stage.

The band opened strong with Nothing’s As It Seems, a song about doubting yourself while trying to make your dreams happen. Tell Me What You Want followed, a song the band released in July to tease the album. Then White Lifelines, another fan favourite which wouldn’t be out of place in an Arctic Monkeys album. It was during the first verse of this song that Pearce Macca, the lead singer, spotted familiar faces in the crowd and acknowledged them. The boys cheered louder.

The set list was expertly curated. It included older tracks such as Where Are You Now. Pop Culture and Electric were also highlights. Exception, a track off their debut album, was also played and its acoustic feel brought balance to the high energy journey the audience was on. This song took a life of its own, connecting with many fans when the album was released, judging by posts on social media.

The encore included Weekend Millionaire, and Element, formerly In My Element, a song they reclaimed after being dropped from their label and their most streamed song on Spotify.

The stage was simple but well put together; every member of the band was visible (don’t you hate it when you can’t get a picture of the white band? It is usually the drummer who pays the price of being in the back). Colourful and dynamic lights directed the crowd’s mood, at times adding an air of mystery by offering only the silhouette of the band members.

The crowd went hard for every song, even the more ballady ones. The mosh pit was wild. People danced, sang as if their lives depended on it, and strangers took turns to lift each other up on shoulders. The Clause are the type of band able to connect with a wide audience, which was evident by the range of ages in the crowd (within the venue’s age restriction of 14+).

Macca, Jonny Fyffe (bass), Liam Deakin (guitar) and Niall Fennell (drums) have been together since secondary school, Macca said. They were aided by Rob Latimer on guitar, whose harmonies added a lot to some tracks.

There was a touching moment towards the end when Macca thanked the This Feeling team, who were in the audience, for all the support they’ve given the band since their early years.

The Clause ooze charisma. With powerful vocals, memorable guitar riffs and basslines, and a drumbeat that’s allergic to boredom, their stage presence is magnetic. It is hard to imagine someone who goes into their show without knowing them at all and doesn’t walk out as a lifelong fan.
