Arthur Black kicked off the evening at the Waterfront Studio with a selection of heartfelt ballads with a gothic touch. The hauntingly raw vocals were captivating, leaving the audience listening in silence and amazement. They put the room under a spell with their gothic-folk tunes that told the story of their life experiences with incredible storytelling and emotional vulnerability. Her vocals had an enchanting quality, comparable to Florence + the Machine mixed with Phoebe Bridgers, that ramped up in intensity as their set progresses.
Lizzie Esau took to the stage for a more upbeat set, featuring driving guitars and brutally honest lyrics about the state of the world. The electric guitar riffs drew the crowd in further. The way her vocals mixed with the instruments was mesmerising. She displayed her disgust at the work-life balance in the current economy with newest single ‘Day In The Life’ which had a similar sound to Baby Queen but with her own personal twist. The repetitive lyrics were super catchy and had the crowd bobbing along. She ended her set with ‘Bleak Sublime’ while encouraging fans to sing along.
Coach Party started the first night of tour with ‘Do It For Love’ before leading into ‘Can’t Talk, Won’t’. Their set was upbeat and rowdy throughout, with the crowd splitting into little groups of fans dancing along all night. The punk vocals mixed with the robotic-effect backing vocals and interesting production created an intense atmosphere, fully carrying the weight of the rage in the vocals, particularly during ‘All I Wanna Do Is Hate’.
They showcased their latest album ‘Caramel’ in full, minus ‘Medicate Yourself’, as well as their latest single ‘Nurse Depression’ which shows their attitude towards the expectations of the music industry, accompanied by funky riffs which gave off the effect of mimicking and mocking music industry professional’s opinions. The super fun evening wrapped up with fan-favourites ‘FLAG (Feel Like A Girl)’, ‘Still Hurts’ and ‘Girls!’ which were the perfect note to end the show on and the band left the stage beaming from ear to ear.
Coach Party continue their UK and Europe tour before joining Indochine in arenas in France and then heading to New York, Toronto and Los Angeles for more headline shows.
