Lowestoft glam rock legends The Darkness performed a surprise live acoustic show at London’s St Pancras station on the 25th November, marking a key anniversary as well as an exciting new announcement.
The Darkness recently celebrated the twentieth anniversary of their 2005 album “One Way Ticket To Hell… And Back” and we’re sure it’s no coincidence that they chose to mark this by performing in a railway station (the album featured a runaway train on its artwork). Aside from this anniversary, the band have also announced a run of arena shows in December 2026, alongside supporting Iron Maiden at Knebworth in July.
Justin and Dan Hawkins teamed up to perform a small selection of favourites, including; “Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)” followed by “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”, “Givin’ Up” and more. Justin sang and played St Pancras’ own piano, while Dan accompanied his brother on an acoustic guitar.
As one would expect, this surprise performance grasped the attention of the star-struck commuters and onlookers throughout the station, many of whom joined in with an enthusiastic singalong. The Darkness follow in the footsteps of other great names who have also stopped to play St. Pancras’ piano such as; Rod Stewart, Alicia Keys, Jeff Goldblum, Norah Jones, Elton John and John Legend.
As Justin plays St. Pancras’ piano he says “As Santa prepares to fly his reindeer-fuelled sleigh of Slays across the night sky, thence to squeeze his tubby frame down the exhausted flues of the nation’s central heating boilers, so we, The Darkness, dust off our Christmas songs in readiness for a glut of celebration! And what a better place to celebrate it than Britain’s favourite railway station?!” It’s a surreal rock and roll atmosphere as London commuters rush past with hot drinks in their hands to warm them up, some stopping just long enough to grab a quick photo.
