Chicago thrash metal band Aftermath are marking 40 years of making music with the release of a re-recorded track, “Sentenced to Death (They Die You Die),” and a new lyric video, arriving on December 31, 2025. The track is available via TLG|ZOID, distributed by Virgin Music Group.
Originally written in 1985 and appearing on the band’s 1986 demo, “Sentenced to Death” was initially recorded live in a single take. While they weren’t happy with the original production, the song itself always held promise. This new version, recorded properly with all four members in the studio, aims to recapture the energy of their early days with a much-improved sound.
“It took 39 years to record it the right way, and we are so happy to finally get it the way we always imagined it should be, that we decided to include it on our upcoming album.”
Currently, Aftermath is putting the finishing touches on their fourth studio album at Electrowerks Recording, with Chuck Macak handling engineering and mixing. Further details, including the album’s title, tracklist and release date, will be announced soon.
“We are excited to be back in the studio. We can’t wait for everyone to hear this album. It’s heavy, it’s catchy, and in typical Aftermath fashion, it sounds totally different from our previous albums.”
Aftermath are:
- Kyriakos “Charlie” Tsiolis – Vocals
- Steve Sacco – Guitar
- Ray Schmidt – Drums
- George Lagis – Bass
