The evening started with a high energy set from Faux Real, who jumped into the crowd from the very first song and kept the insane amount of energy up throughout their whole performance. The brother duo was completely in sync as they performed their choreography with lots of acrobatic moves thrown in. All throughout their leaps and stunts, they produced flawless vocals and interacted with the fans. Their set was truly mesmerising, topped off with unique guitar solos.
The venue filled with smoke as Wet Leg made their way onto the stage, cheered on by the crowd. Rhian Teasdale made an entrance through the haze, showing off her arms as ‘catch these fists’ started. From the get-go, the upbeat melodies and catchy lyrics had the fans singing along to every word. The rowdy lyrics were spoken softly as if it was spoken prose and yet still got the crowd hyped up for the rest of the show as they repeated every word back to them. They then took us back in their discography with one of their first singles ‘Wet Dream’ which I’m sure brought back memories of summer 2022 for many fans in attendance. This song was accompanied by very heavy strobe lighting which filled the whole venue and made for a fully immersive experience.
Wet Leg continued to show off their unique approach to music throughout ‘Liquidize’ and ‘Jennifer’s body’, mixing heavy guitars with upbeat percussion and bold but fun lyrics, with a softer approach towards the vocals. They manage to perfectly balance the rowdiness of pop-punk with the softness of alternative indie-rock as we’re taken on a journey of all consuming love with their latest album ‘moisturiser’.
The crowd was abruptly woken up by the massive scream at the end of ‘Ur Mum’ which was amplified by the fans and echoed throughout the venue before they drifted into the dreamy ‘u and me at home’ and whimsical ‘davina mccall’. ’11:21′ had more stripped back instrumentals, allowing Rhian’s impressive vocals to fully shine through all the haze on stage before picking the pace right back up with ‘pillow talk’ which featured intriguing guitar riffs and their signature repetitive but luring lyrics that capture your attention.
‘Too Late Now’ served as a nice little interlude while the stage was painted with pale blue haze and filled with bubbles floating around, captivating the audience. The light show was a big part of this well put together tour and made the show fully immersive, allowing you to focus more on the music and art than the people on stage performing. the crowd could be seen dancing the whole night long instead of recording on their phones which made for a nice change.
The evening ended with fan favourites ‘Chaise Longue’, ‘CPR’ and ‘mangetout’ which had the loudest crowd participation, bringing the energy right back up before sending us off.
