Papangu stuns London with Brazilian prog avant-garde metal

After making a huge impression in Lisbon and dazzling the crowd at ArcTanGent in their UK debut, it’s time for London to experience Papangu, a Brazilian experimental group that hails from the state of Paraíba, with a special set of just under two hours.

Currently touring Europe to promote their latest album “Lampião Rei”, Papangu draws influences from several different genres: classic and heavy prog, sludge, Brazilian Samba and Forró are just some of the examples.

It’s an impressive mixture that sounds even better live, as the band playfully improvise every night and even use rubber chickens as instruments (no joke!).

Songs such as “Boitatá”, “São Francisco” and “Acende a Luz: II. O Encandeio/III. Sagüatimbó”, not to mention the unreleased tracks and improv sections, draw huge reactions from the crowd. It’s a band that makes the audience headbang and dance at the same time.

It is safe to say that this was a huge London debut for Papangu and we can only hope that they will be back soon with an even trippier album and tour.
