Ashaine White enticed the crowd with her catchy tunes, blending grunge with soul and bold vocals. She captivated the crowd from the get-go, especially with tracks such as ‘Let Me Down’ and ‘Not My Person’ were particularly upbeat and catchy with soulful lyrics. The crowd seemed to enjoy her set and got in the groove ready for Nova Twins.

HotWax stepped on stage and immediately there was a buzz in the air. They started their high energy performance with ‘Rip It Out’ which set the tone for the rest of their set. They created a riotous blend of punk with slower indie-rock moments. They had great stage presence, interacting with each other and the crowd throughout. Tallulah Sim-savage’s dreamy riffs combined perfectly with Lola Sam’s strong bass lines and combined rowdy vocals, creating a show to remember. Other stand out songs to me were ‘She’s Got A Problem’ and unreleased track ‘Change My Name’, before Lola ended their set playing bass on the barricade.

Nova Twins took to the stage accompanied by a massive roar from the crowd, for their biggest headline show to date and last show of the Parasites & Butterflies tour. The stage was lined with giant white flowers, butterflies painted on the amps and black roses around their mic stands. Amy Love wore a custom black set while Georgia South had a contrasting silver outfit, handmade by themselves for the special occasion.
From the very first song ‘Black Roses’, the crowd started jumping and kept it up throughout the rest of the show, only intensifying the further into the set they went. By the second song ‘Sandman’, the crowd surfers had already started heading towards the stage at full pelt.
They commanded the venue with their unapologetic energy and dominated the stage with confidence filling the venue with their booming drums, funky bass lines and upbeat catchy lyrics, combined with a flashing light show for the ultimate experience. They sounded immense, it was insane!
I was particularly blown away by Amy’s angelic but powerful vocals which had the whole crowd spellbound in silence during ‘Hummingbird’ which Amy told us was about learning to move forward even during grief before diving into the enchanting song. I was shocked by how effortlessly she switched up between faster hip-hop lyrics and high-pitched vocal riffs throughout the entire show.
Georgia also ‘murdered those bass lines’ throughout the show. One song that stood out to me in particular was ‘Hide & Seek’ which had a super distinctive bass line. There are no other bands in the scene doing it like them right now. They constantly surprise their fans with new innovative sounds that are unlike any other.
The show allowed for lots of crowd interaction throughout, including the fans chanting back ‘N.O.V.A’ repeatedly during ‘N.O.V.A’. Nova Twins brought out Ashaine White and HotWax to join them on stage for ‘Choose Your Fighter’ before they leapt into the crowd to crowd surf while still playing their instruments as the mosh pits intensified.
They told us about their tour partnership with Amnesty international and the importance oof coming together to fight for justice while raising a banner reading ‘Love over Hate’. They ended their set with ‘Glory’ as just as the silence hit with everyone thinking it was the end, a doorbell rang, and a final breakdown hit along with many confetti canons for the last few seconds of chaos.
Every single second of this show had been meticulously planned, keeping the contrasting themes of the album in mind, and allowing for a fully immersive experience for everyone in attendance. It was the perfect show to send their drummer Jake Woodward off onto his next endeavours and to celebrate their latest album, ending the tour on a high. This show only proved their place in the scene further and consolidates their spot as one of the most exciting upcoming bands, I’m sure they’ll be headlining arenas in no time!
