DeathbyRomy – Skaters Palace, Münster – 13/07/2025

Bodyimage

Bodyimage kick-started the evening with an intense and upbeat set. I wasn’t sure how the crowd would receive her music to begin with, as she has a very distinctive sound, incomparable to any other artist I know. But from the very first beat drop, she commanded the entire venue with her infectious energy and had the whole room dancing along. Her music is very atmospheric and fitted the venue like a glove, further enhanced by her emotional vocals and distorted screams as she showed us a glimpse into the turmoil of losing and rediscovering herself again, which is highlighted throughout her recent album ‘The Rot’. We also got a glimpse at her upcoming track ‘ratking,’ which is out next week and seemed to be a hit with the crowd. Some of the songs had been slightly altered to sound harder live, making the experience even more exciting and immersive. She had one of the liveliest crowds I’ve ever seen for an opener, and I’m sure she gained a whole load of new fans that night as they all appeared to enjoy her set that night thoroughly.

DeathbyRomy

Next up was DeathbyRomy, her band took to the stage to immense cheering from the crowd, which further intensified as Romy joined them, with ‘California Dreaming’ interlude playing in the background, before leading straight into one of my favourite sings from the new album ‘See You On The Other Side’ from ‘Hollywood Forever’ which was released independently back in April. This was night 3 of a fully sold-out Europe run, and their energy did not let up. Having had the opportunity to see the first night of tour as well, I can only say that they ramped up the energy with every show! ‘XXXhibitionist’ was a massive hit with the audience; it saw the crowd mirroring the band as they did the ‘XXX’ choreography.

Romy and her band, comprised of Jayden Hammer on guitar, Earth to Cheska on bass and Max on drums, always give everything they have to give on stage and interact with their fans throughout the shows to show their appreciation for them. All their love and passion for music is displayed throughout their performances, with Romy ensuring they all get a moment to shine in the spotlight with their solos. During Jayden’s guitar solo in ‘Saint’ in particular, fans could be seen watching in awe, with their mouths wide open, from the barrier up to the balcony.

During ‘Crash’, Romy’s vocal versatility is put on display, effortlessly changing between gut-wrenching screams and clean vocals, which are further enhanced by the coordinated light show. ‘Little Dreamer’ had Romy yelling into a megaphone to replicate the vocal effects on that one section in the recorded track. ‘Little Dreamer’ was special to hear live as her album ‘Hollywood Forever’ is a love letter to Los Angeles, where she grew up, and this sold-out headline tour is just further proof that she will achieve her dreams and whatever she puts her mind to with all the hard work she puts into her art and dreams. ‘If I Die Young’ was another emotional track live, which had the whole crowd singing along in a cathartic way; that song just has something in it that gets you in your feels, even if you can’t fully relate to it.

They then picked up the pace with ‘Hellhound’, Romy’s collaboration with Jazmin Bean, which had Cheska filling in on their parts, so she had her time to shine as she climbed on the barrier to sing directly to the fans. Romy then gave a little speech about the inspiration for her latest single ‘Guerra’, which had the whole crowd erupt into a chant, repeating ‘fuck Donald Trump’ before the moshing commenced. The crowd did not stop moving all night and only got rowdier as the songs got heavier. Next up was ‘Kill Or Be Killed’, the first Team Death collaboration with Jayden and Cheska both having verses on it, they all bring something unique to this track, infusing it with a touch of their distinctive sounds from their solo projects, as they let their frustrations against the system out on stage. ‘Pray to Me’, Romy’s collaboration with Palaye Royale, saw Jayden covering Remington Leith’s vocals. I honestly prefer the live version to the recorded version; the contrast between Romy and Jayden’s vocals on this song just tickles something in your brain, and it’s refreshing to hear a slightly different live version. Romy also climbed the barrier and jumped into the middle of the crowd to join in with the mosh pit at the end of this one and appeared to be having the time of her life surrounded by her much-adored fans.

Bodyimage also joined the band on stage to perform their song ‘Hate Party’ together, which got the fans even more riled up and left wanting more before they erupted into chanting ‘One more song’ at the end. The band returned to the stage to even more cheers to perform one last song, ‘Day I Die,’ before meeting all the fans that had purchased merch at the merch stand.

It’s amazing to see their growth since their first European shows back in 2022, and I can’t wait to see where they all end up both as a band and with their projects! You can tell that on this last album, they’ve taken the time to hone in on their sound while also exploring the different sides of it, making it a phenomenal and engaging album to listen to. They always make sure that their fans know how much they are appreciated and are kept at the forefront of their minds when putting together live shows and merch, and all the tiny details that go into these projects. There isn’t a band more deserving of success.

Catch them on tour in Europe again this autumn with Enter Shikari! Tickets can be found here
