Black Honey – Norwich Arts Centre, Norwich – 24/02/2026

Starting the evening off was Liverpool-based band Girl Group, each member brought their own eclectic energy to the stage which all melded together perfectly, creating a fun upbeat set. The stage was lined with synths, which the multi-instrumentalists took turns switching between instruments, vocals, and choreography. Every member had a chance to shine individually, showing off their many talents as they performed their feminist rage pop tracks. Their voices harmonised perfectly while they conveyed strong messages about the patriarchy and what it is like to be a women/non-binary in the current society. Their infectious energy filled the room and had the crowd bobbing along throughout. One thing that was evident throughout their set was how much they love being on stage and enjoy performing. Girl Group is definitely one to watch this year as I am sure they will blow up very soon! They made sure their message was heard before leaving the stage, chanting “trans rights, queer rights, human rights as well as free Palestine, Congo and Sudan”.

Black Honey took to the stage and commenced with ‘To The Grave’, which immediately put the sold-out church under a spell with Izzy Baxter Phillips‘ charming vocals. The full set was upbeat with catchy guitar riffs and lyrics, but with a calm overtone. Couples and small groups of friends could be seen dancing together all around the room. They have a cinematic, 90s shoegaze sound which combines perfectly with their retro aesthetic. Their presence was certainly felt at the Norwich Arts Centre as they filled the venue with their enticing energy.

They played their latest album ‘Soak’ almost in its entirety, with the crowd singing the loudest for ‘Carroll Avenue’. During ‘Psycho’, Izzy had a mic in an old-fashioned telephone which added a nice dynamic to the monologue towards the end of this song, giving it a more retro feel. ‘Vampire in the Kitchen’ had an extended outro, allowing them to really show off their beautiful guitar tones before leading into ‘All My Pride’. The entire show had a wonderful dynamic, flowing between slower and heavier sections throughout, with Izzy giving little backstories about some of the songs in between. The night ended on a high note, with Izzy inviting all their non-male fans to the front to celebrate diversity and they all sang and danced along to ‘OK’ and ‘Corrine’, with such a sense of community.
