The title, drawn from a Biblical reference, frames the EP’s exploration of themes such as darkness, religion, and the ultimate maker of life: death.
PRESIDENT are one of the most talked-about British artists right now, and have created much suspense around this EP release. Their rise to making their mark in the industry has been uniquely impressive, and we’re sure you’ll love this offering from them.
The EP begins with their first single release, “In The Name Of The Father,” which delivers notes played in an ominous and poised manner, accompanied by tinkling sounds. It’s not long until we’re into full throttle guttural emotive screams. Pauses for effect keep us enthralled before the insanely defined “arghs” are delivered. This song is undeniably catchy, talent-filled, and unique-sounding. Beautifully distinct vocals are evident; the lyrics are poetic and delivered with delicacy. Voice-overs around the meaning of life lead to intensified guttural screams before the most exhilarating exorcistic bridge is delivered with manic timings and intensive sounds, whispers, screams, and thrashing instrumentals, which lead into more angelic-like singing, all the while remaining produced to perfection. The perfect balance of original sounds and heavy edginess is given throughout. This song was our introduction to PRESIDENT while solidifying that they’re here to stay.
“Fearless” plays next. The song starts with guitars strummed alongside an almost hip-hop sounding beat. The song gets heavy almost immediately, with more instruments introduced. Warped meaningful lyrics are given in a hugely emotive, heavy, and punchy style. Vocal adlibs give the song strength and a unique energy. Screams ensue while the song remains super catchy. Intervals of crashing drums are given at all the right moments with layered vocals delivering consistent chants, making this song stand out. It’s relatable yet unique, vocally poignant and strong with mesmerising lyrics delivered, remaining consistently expressive and constantly impressive throughout.
“RAGE” starts trance-like and prominently electronic-sounding. Feminine vocals are heard and paired with nostalgic-sounding beats, giving the EP a completely new sound. The songs’ styles fluctuate consistently while PRESIDENT remains genre-defying. The song is compelling, ethereal, and surprising throughout. Vocals are softened and correlated with digitally synthetic sounds and new musicalities we’ve never heard before. Lyrics are extremely expressive and ever-changing. PRESIDENT remains authentic while experimenting with new sounds such as faded vocals that lead to a heavier bridge that’s delivered with a lot of energy and vocal strength, thrashing drums, and computerised notes at high-pitched intervals. The song challenges you to feel multiple moods and emotions while it takes you on a unique listening journey. The ending becomes even heavier, and it’s all tied together really nicely.
“Dionysus” has an authentic PRESIDENT sound, with tapping noises that meet screeching riffs, purposefully directionless and opposing, but all put together to perfection. Staccato lyrics are delivered, becoming more softened and mellow as they go on, and sentences end by becoming blended. Thundering riffs and crashing electronic sounds are softened with heartfelt vocals delivered with much emotion behind them. Ominous-sounding instrumentals are introduced before more prominent vocals are delivered, while encapsulating so much energy and mythological themes. Fried screaming and chaotic guitar playing lead the song out.
Next up is “Destroy Me”, which was recently released alongside a music video. The song starts off intrinsically warped-sounding while moving into heavy guitar chords, while the staccato vocal delivery is emotive and poignant. The sounds are felt on every emotional level, while the intent screaming for choruses is delivered prominently. Lyrics are relatable and thought-provoking. The bridge consists of heavy riffs and fried vocals, which lead into guttural screams while sounding elusive, introducing bells, chimes, chainsaw-sounding guitars, and fluttering biblical noises, so many sounds are delivered all at once, but all working consistently, perfected alongside one another until we reach a warped musical fade out.
The EP ends on “Conclave,” which starts off endearing sounding with delicate sounds and piano playing, uplifting and hopeful, encapsulating feelings of importance. Layered and melodic vocals sound beautiful and unique. Nostalgic-sounding frequencies that are ever-changing lead us into severely catchy, soulful, and emotive musical deliveries throughout. Computerized noises balance out the more classical sounds with the most interesting and unique instrumental, while angelic vocals turn to lyrical questions delivered with wondering tones. The song sounds so beautiful and is a complete masterpiece.
The whole EP tells a story of a biblical, political, and emotional journey. It’s timeless and all-consuming. An incredibly unique delivery which is delicate while harsh and fluctuates effortlessly, consistently, relentlessly, and surprisingly. It’s all we expected from PRESIDENT and more. We can’t wait to hear these songs played live when PRESIDENT will embark on The Campaign Trail – their inaugural U.K. headline tour.
Who’s behind the music is irrelevant while the music they’re creating is making history.
